I finally saw Ringo live the other day!!!
I joined a friend to a festival. When we got there KT Tunstall was singing (she had a little hit with “Black horse & a cherry tree”). She was okay, but towards the end of her set we went to the 2nd stage (the marquee) to see an Eagles cover band, The Ultimate Eagles. They were very good. During their last song we had to leave the Marquee since we wanted to see Ringo Starr, who was about to start on the main stage. I was pleased to see him live! His All Starr Band and had several talented musicians: Wally Palmar (The Romantics – “That’s what I like about you”), Edgar Winter, Rick Derringer (The McCoys – “Hang on Sloopy”), Gary Wright, Gregg Bissonette and Richard Page (Mr Mister – “Broken wings”). They played some Beatle songs (Act naturally, Yellow submarine (sang along by 20000 people), I wanna be your man and With a little help from my friends) solo songs of Ringo (photograph, it don't come easy) and some songs of the other band members. They were really good and Ringo was the post popular band member by far. I feel so happy to have finally seen him play live - sometimes he was just the singer in the band, at other moments he was just the drummer. It's a pity they were only allowed to play for one hour (although Ringo changed that into 1 hour 15 minutes himself); he did complain that it was weird playing such a short set - they were used to playing more. And a longer concert would have given them more opportunity to show how talented the musicians were.
After Ringo we saw Brian Setzer (The Stray Cats). Although I only know a couple of his songs, I thought he put on a great show and had everybody going. Then Roxette. Their singer, Marie, has had a brain tumor and this tour is the first long tour she has been doing since her illness. They did do the Proms in Belgium/Holland a year and a half ago, but that were just short sets – 5 songs. Her voice wasn't good at that time; it's not 100% nowadays but compared to the Proms it has improved a lot. Roxette was brilliant. Then we went to the Marquee again to see Roger Hodson (Supertramp), who was really amazing. Closing act was the Dutch singer, Anouk. She has a good voice, but her show wasn’t good at all – too much unknown songs and no interaction with the audience. Quite a lot of people left during her set. A pity they had her as the closing act.
